The Miller's Daughter
Leonardo (A.K.A. Leo)
Mariella is the daughter of Federico, the miller. She has been taking care of him since he grew older and was unable to work. She is a hard worker and runs the family farm in place of her father. As a child, she used to play with Prince Leonardo, but as they grew older their individual duties didn't allow for much socializing and they grew apart.
Mariella is shy and lacks confidence in herself. When invited to go to the Harvest Ball being thrown at the palace, she is unsure whether she wants to go. She doesn't feel elegant or pretty like the other girls in the kingdom because she spends all her time working in the fields.
The Prince of Fortuna
Leo is the son of King Matteo and Queen Cecilia. He is a confident young man who treats his subjects well. He is a responsible youth with a good head on his shoulders. Sometimes, however, he can be too focused on a task and he gets ahead of himself. He has a good heart but can sometimes act before thinking things through. He is fiercely loyal to those whom he loves and does everything in his power for their benefit.
Niccolo
Mariella's Butterfly Friend
When Leo was a boy, he found Niccolo as a caterpillar one day. Because he and Mariella were pretending to be pirates, he accused Niccolo of being a stowaway on their ship and was threatening to squish him as punishment. Mariella intervened and said that she was pardoning the stowaway and allowing him to join the crew. Niccolo was very grateful to Mariella and swore to be her protector, especially from the likes of Leo. Niccolo doesn't trust Leo at first, but eventually he forgives Leo for being a mischievous youth.
An evil Imp
Rumpelstiltskin is a self-centered, greedy imp. He convinced some pixies to give him magic powers to make himself rich. One of those pixies became rather fond of him, and when Rumpelstiltskin blew her off, the other pixies became angry and cast a hex on him. If any woman besides Liliana, their sister, were to speak Rumpelstiltskin's name, then he would disappear forever.
Rumpelstiltskin intended to make himself king of the imps with his powers, but because his people knew his name he first needed to break the curse. He strings Liliana around to do his bidding and takes advantage of her affection for him.
Liliana
A Jealous Pixie
Liliana is a dangerous pixie who can lose her temper and create chaos when she is upset. She is hopelessly enamored with Rumpelstiltskin and does his bidding despite him not doing anything back for her. She hopes that someday he will change his mind and give her the affection that she craves.
Federico
The Miller
Federico is Mariella's father. He is a kind, gentle-hearted man who loves his daughter very much. Despite losing the ability to work on the family farm, he pushes himself to help Mariella out with whatever he is physically able to do.
He is very encouraging of Mariella and is always giving her positive affirmation. He builds up her self-esteem and is committed to giving her the best life he can.
Matteo
King of Fortuna
Matteo is the Father of Leonardo. He is beloved by his people because he treats them with fairness. He doesn't oppress his people with heavy taxes and every year he celebrates his people by putting on the Harvest Ball.
Cecilia
Queen of Fortuna
Cecilia is Matteo's wife and Leo's Mother. She is a very level-headed ruler and brings kindness, mercy, and compassion to balance out the justice of her husband.
Julia
Neighboring Princess
Julia is a perky princess with a lot of energy. She is betrothed to Leo Even though their engagement gets broken off, she still remains friendly towards Leo and Mariella.
Gregorio
Neighboring King
Gregorio is the Father of Julia. He is wealthy because his kingdom is a trading port. He lives a lavish lifestyle and doesn't mind flaunting his wealth. Despite this, he is a jolly individual and a good man and treats his people well.
A Humble Woodsman
Antonius spends his time roaming the forest in search of firewood, which he then sells to make a living. He leads a solitary life and doesn't have much contact with other people, making him a little bit socially awkward.
Because of this lifestyle, Antonius discovers a piece of information which the Royal Family has been searching for.
